I'm driven by why

Ever since I was little I've wanted to know the why and the how of things: the wisdom that comes from repetition and insight acquired over time. I'm still driven by this deep desire to understand, and the empathy that comes with it.

Accomplishments I'm proud of:

  • I'm a full-stack designer
  • Xbox One launch team
  • Startup Weekend B2B Winner
  • Nintendo Official Strategy Guides
  • Infographic Design

Raised in the Pacific Northwest

My parents were from Vermont and Florida but met in Los Angeles in the 1960s. They travelled up by VW bus for the 1962 Worlds Fair and liked it well enough to settle. Seattle in those days was a small town that closed downtown on Sundays. Everyone worked for Boeing, Weyerhauser, or in the fishing industry. In the late 1970s you started to see Microsoft's first building in Bellevue, the sign of things to come.

Advertising & Illustration Program

After working for a couple of years, I attended Seattle Central College's Advertising and Illustration program. It was a 2-year applied associate of science degree. It was also the cheapest, (and best) option for art training in Seattle at the time. Cornish and the Art Instute of Seattle were expensive.

Art, Design & Storytelling

I've found the my gretest asset is my ability to change. Making the move from print to web design, interaction design, visual design, front-end frameworks and continuing to evolve as the tools change. But the design thinking, art principles, and power of visuals and text together to tell stories hasn't changed. the stories will be remembered, the technology will change.

Early influences

I've always had a great love of reading, history and art. Early influences were David Macauley's How Things Work, Lego instruction manuals, role-playing games, punk rock.
